The BYD Atto 1 now features the manufacturer's newest LiDAR-enabled driver-assistance system in China.

This refresh hits as the Atto 1 - marketed as the BYD Seagull at home - faces stiff rivalry from the Geely EX2, which claimed the crown as China's top-selling car in 2025. The nimble electric hatch targets Australian dealerships in late 2026.

BYD Australia has shared no specifics or schedules on potential updates for its domestic Atto 1 range.

Unveiled at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, the revamped Atto 1 is on sale in China across four grades, all powered by the unchanged 55kW motor and offered with two battery options.

The smaller 30kWh battery delivers 305km of range (CLTC testing), while the 38.88kWh pack stretches to 405km (CLTC) - figures carried over from the prior version.

Australia welcomed the BYD Atto 1 in 2025 with two variants. The entry Essential trim, at $23,990 before on-roads, reigns as the nation's most affordable EV, packing a 66kW motor, 30kWh battery, and 220km WLTP range.

The upscale Premium edition commands a $4000 premium, with its punchier 115kW motor and 43.2kWh battery yielding 310km WLTP range.

The Seagull edition sports a roof-top LiDAR module integrated into the DiPilot 300 safety and assistance package, bolstered by ultrasonic sensors and radars. This tech comes as an option on two of China's four trims.

Fresh exterior shades include Mango Orange and Mint Green, paired with updated 16-inch wheels.

Cabin upgrades bring an Oatmeal interior hue, a bigger 12.8-inch infotainment screen versus the 10.1-inch unit down under, and a reworked lineup of physical buttons underneath.

Base prices nudge up ¥100 ($20.30), kicking off at ¥69,900 ($14,186) and topping out at ¥85,900 ($17,416), just ahead of the Geely EX2's ¥69,800 ($14,166) entry point.
