In the current era of electric vehicles, the chase for greater power often takes center stage. Yet BMW is adopting a notably measured strategy for its forthcoming electric M3.

M division chief Frank van Meel noted that delivering extreme outputs well above 1,000 horsepower remains technically achievable. The company already showcased this potential via the BMW Vision Driving Experience concept, which generated roughly 1,341 hp.

Van Meel stressed that such high figures introduce drawbacks. Efficiency declines, thermal systems grow more intricate, and overall drivability may suffer. For any production model carrying the M badge, achieving the right balance holds equal importance to raw performance numbers.

This restraint does not suggest the electric BMW M3 will lack speed. It should easily exceed the current M3 CS, which produces 543 hp. While final specifications stay confidential, an output under 900 hp looks probable.

BMW intends to equip the car with a quad-motor layout that supports all-wheel drive while allowing full disconnection of the front axle. Drivers can thus toggle between maximum traction and classic rear-wheel-drive behavior whenever they choose.
