After years away from the spotlight, Apollo has stepped forward once more. At the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed the company presented the first of ten planned Evo hypercars and handed the finished vehicle to its owner, signaling a renewed chapter for the marque.

The original Gumpert Apollo earned legendary standing, while the later IE model arrived amid considerable attention. Yet the firm then withdrew from view for an extended period as ownership transitioned and priorities were clarified behind the scenes.

We met with Marko Konta, Apollo Automobil CPO, to discuss the Evo and the road ahead.

A Hypercar Brand Reborn

Earlier this year Motor1 drove the striking Apollo Intenza Emozione and found it a compelling addition to the hypercar ranks. The outing confirmed that Apollo still builds remarkable machines despite the quiet spell.

Performance, dramatic styling and an unmistakable presence define the cars. Limited slots and high prices keep them exclusive, yet those who acquire one receive a multimillion-dollar driving experience.

Revealing the first Evo served as a clear reset. The car stood prominently on Apollo's sizable stand beside the Supercar Paddock. Every run up and down the hill passed the display, attracting photographers and fans eager to see rare machinery.

The appearance represents a major statement from a company largely silent for nearly a decade.

'We came to Goodwood to demonstrate that we deliver on promises and that we are committed. We also wanted to give enthusiasts a genuine chance to experience the car. Our stand stays open so visitors can walk around freely without signing in.

Very few people who admire our cars will ever own one, but that is not the goal. We aim to remain approachable to fans, enthusiasts and customers alike so the broader audience can enjoy what we create.'

Hosting a large presence solely for a customer handover and hill-climb runs might seem excessive, yet the team's participation carries real weight. All ten Evos are already sold, and the company intends to remain small and bespoke rather than expand volume. Konta noted:

'We are not a large manufacturer. That freedom lets us move quickly. Small size does not imply delays, and it allows us to accommodate nearly any request a buyer may have.'

The German facility offers excellent conditions yet limited floor space for fitting large aerodynamic elements to V12-powered cars. Buyers paying top prices also expect meticulous hand assembly.

Many details distinguish the first Evo. Its exhaust features Apollo's 3D-printed titanium 'dragon skin' design that shifts color after repeated heat cycles. The paint required roughly one thousand hours: the body was finished in blue, selected areas masked by hand, then accented with diamond dust for added brilliance.

Engineering advances further separate the Evo from everyday vehicles. Although related to the IE, roughly seventy to eighty percent of the car is new. The chassis, roof, front and rear structures, plus suspension geometry, were all updated to current safety and stiffness standards.

'The IE already surpassed FIA requirements when new. The Evo meets the latest LMDH regulations while preserving the same forward-thinking approach.'

The Future Of Apollo

With current production allocated, Apollo must generate fresh interest through new models. Konta outlined a balanced philosophy:

'Power-to-weight remains the key metric. The original Gumpert Apollo, though two decades old, still feels potent and kart-like. We carried that same lightness into the Evo even though the car weighs more than one thousand kilograms. Today the sensation, sound and overall experience matter more than raw figures.'

Konta stayed noncommittal on forced induction, leaving open the possibility of customer-specified turbos. The brand is unlikely to pursue extreme record attempts in the near term.

A future model is expected to receive full road homologation. Konta confirmed the long-term aim:

'We intend to offer a road-legal product. Our racing background and the legacy of once holding the outright lap record, combined with German engineering principles, point toward returning that heritage to public roads.'

The next vehicle remains some time away, yet Konta's focus stayed on the completed Evo. Pride in the car and the team that brought it to Goodwood was evident as he prepared to return home.

Such dedication is understandable. The company appears positioned for steady growth in the years ahead.
