Acura is allegedly developing a new three-row flagship SUV.
It will slot above the MDX in the lineup and feature a hybrid powertrain.

Acura may have a compact range at present following the recent discontinuation of models such as the RDX and TLX. Yet that situation should change before the decade closes. The Honda luxury division will reportedly introduce a new three-row flagship SUV with manufacturing due to begin in September 2029.

A recent Automotive News account states that the upcoming Acura will use Honda's latest hybrid powertrain setup. It will not be a full electric vehicle. One document reportedly names the model the Acura XL and positions it above the existing mid-size MDX.

Honda revealed last November that it is creating a new V6 engine for future hybrid models that will likely extend to Acura vehicles. The system is said to deliver strong performance along with high towing ability.

The new three-row Acura will rival other premium family haulers including the Lexus TX. Production will take place at the Lincoln Alabama plant with an annual target of 40,000 units.

Acura's Early Sales Success

Even with a reduced model range Acura sales have risen 1.9 percent during the first half of the year. The brand has moved 69,715 vehicles so far in 2026.

The MDX remains the top seller with 24,102 units delivered. The ADX and Integra have both exceeded RDX volumes and Acura is pausing that model while preparing its successor. This will leave the brand with only three vehicles for some time ahead.

In March Acura confirmed it would cancel the electric RSX prior to launch. The move follows the end of the ZDX after a single model year. A new three-row SUV would add welcome variety to the range.
