Details on any direct swap remain unconfirmed, but the narrative holds appeal. Nissan gains an accessible plug-in hybrid crossover while Mitsubishi receives an affordable long-range EV, creating mutual benefits. The main drawback falls on sales staff who must soon clarify distinctions between the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback for buyers who may never grasp the difference.

Because the new Eclipse Sportback essentially rebadges the Leaf on attractive aero-optimized tri-spoke wheels, full specifications appear in coverage of the latest Leaf. Key points include a 75 kWh battery delivering 303 miles of range. Selecting the higher trim with larger wheels reduces that figure to 259 miles. Both versions use a single front-mounted motor producing 214 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. Testing showed the related model accelerating to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds and completing the quarter-mile in 15.4 seconds at 93 mph.

Charging hardware features a J1772 port on the driver side plus an NACS port on the passenger side, giving owners flexibility. When away from home, public fast charging supports up to 150 kW, allowing a 10-to-80-percent top-up in roughly 35 minutes according to Nissan.

Thus the visible exterior revisions represent the primary modifications applied to create the Eclipse Sportback. No interior images have been shared.
