Lexus has announced that the 2027 NX model will eliminate the gasoline-only version. This marks the first time the crossover will be offered solely in hybrid or plug-in hybrid configurations.

The manufacturer revealed the refreshed NX on October 20, 2026, reducing the range to four trims while increasing electric power delivery in both systems.

Customers can now select the NX 350h hybrid or NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid in Premium, Premium+, F Sport, and Luxury levels. All versions feature updated styling, a reinforced chassis, and an interior centered on a larger standard display screen.

The update preserves the NX compact size but refines its front with a fresh dual-line headlight design that integrates turn signals and daytime running lights into a single form. At the rear, Lexus introduces its initial Double L taillight setup, positioned around a lighted emblem.

Shoppers receive nine exterior colors, with three fresh options: Shaded Ivy, an ash-green hue, and Incognito, a cool gray shade limited to F Sport editions. Iridium takes the place of the prior Atomic Silver throughout the range.

Chrome accents have mostly disappeared, replaced by black mirror caps and window trim.

Within the cabin, Lexus pairs a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a new 14.0-inch touchscreen, integrated into a dashboard using Lexus Interface software. Five interior color options feature two new additions: Abalos, drawn from Martian sand dunes, and F Sport-exclusive Radiant Red.

The grade structure remains straightforward. Premium and Premium+ provide the NX 350h hybrid with front- or all-wheel drive, whereas F Sport and Luxury include all-wheel drive as standard.

The plug-in NX 450h+ comes with all-wheel drive in every grade, and the revised NX styling along with powertrain options extend across all ten model codes Lexus lists for 2027.

Both systems now direct power via a new e-Axle that combines the transaxle, motor, and power control unit into a single lighter unit. This adjustment aids in lowering the NX center of gravity.

Lexus incorporated silicon carbide semiconductors into the inverter to reduce electrical losses throughout the setup.

The NX 350h combined output rises to 244 horsepower, a 4-hp increase from the previous hybrid, with the front motor alone delivering 160 hp and the rear axle motor on all-wheel-drive versions contributing 54 hp. Lexus notes its hybrid-control software now requests greater electric assistance during acceleration, which should refine power flow even as straight-line performance remains similar to last year's figures.

The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid experiences a larger increase. Its front motor now produces 203 hp, raising total system output to 324 hp, up from 304 hp before.

Lexus attributes a redesigned lithium-ion battery pack for an 8 percent rise in output and an 8 percent boost in capacity compared to the prior unit. The added energy supports stronger electric acceleration and an extended electric-only driving period.

Lexus projects an electric-only range of roughly 40 miles for the plug-in hybrid, and chassis engineers strengthened the floor and suspension towers to improve handling.

Cabin Tech And Driver-Assist Updates

Every 2027 NX includes the 14.0-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen and 12.3-inch instrument display as standard, operating software focused on a customizable home screen and simultaneous dual Bluetooth phone pairing. A built-in drive recorder and over-the-air update support are now standard throughout the lineup.

Luxury and F Sport purchasers receive Sensory Concierge, a cabin system that manages lighting, climate, seat temperature, and scent across three selectable modes named Inspire, Radiance, and Revitalize. Lexus also supplies three independent fragrances, Shinmei, Seiyo, and Hanya, that occupants can activate separately from the preset modes.

Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 comes standard and features adaptive cruise control along with automatic emergency braking that includes pedestrian detection. Intersection assistance and emergency steering support continue in their latest versions, aiding the driver with turns through traffic and sudden avoidance actions.

Lexus produces the NX 350h at facilities in Ontario, Canada, and Kyushu, Japan, while the NX 450h+ originates solely from the Kyushu plant. Pricing for all four grades will be released nearer the on-sale period.
