The Rivian R1T marked a milestone as the first electric pickup in regular production to reach U.S. roads, with initial customer deliveries in September 2021 for the 2022 model year. Ford's F-150 Lightning arrived later in May 2022, following even the GMC Hummer EV Pickup deliveries that began in December 2021.

Its distinctive styling pairs with a refined interior loaded with technology and supportive seating. Strong off-road ability, 314 miles of range, 11,000-pound towing capacity, 1,760-pound payload, and 11.1 cubic feet of frunk space further boost its appeal.

Kelley Blue Book lists the base 2022 Rivian R1T Adventure at a current fair purchase price of $51,600. Starting from its original $74,500 MSRP, this reflects roughly 30 percent depreciation by 2026 and a solid 70 percent retained value. The Launch Edition shows steeper losses near 40 percent over the same span.

These figures exclude early pre-order discounts and the now-expired $7,500 federal tax credit that helped initial buyers preserve more equity.

2022 Rivian R1T Depreciation Compared With Key Rivals

The 2022 Rivian R1T holds value better than most competitors. It trails only the base 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro, which retains about 83 percent of its $41,769 MSRP at a current fair price of $34,800.

Higher Lightning trims fared worse: the XLT dropped 33 percent, the Lariat fell 39 percent, and the Platinum lost 49 percent. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup, priced from $110,295, now sits at a $63,100 fair purchase price for a 37 percent decline. The Chevrolet Silverado EV, arriving in 2024, has already depreciated 36 to 38 percent in just two years.

Strong customer loyalty supports the R1T's resale strength. Rivian led Consumer Reports' satisfaction rankings, and 91 percent of owners said they would purchase another R1T.
