A CNN report, based on sources close to US intelligence, reveals that Mojtaba Khamenei holds a vital position in Iran's military approach even as he remains out of sight.

According to a CNN report from Saturday, US intelligence evaluations show that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is deeply engaged in shaping the country's war strategy, all while keeping a low profile in hiding.

The article, drawing from several sources knowledgeable about US intelligence, notes that Khamenei appears to be guiding the current US-Iran talks. This comes after reports that he sustained injuries during the initial strikes by the US and Israel on Iran.

Although the exact power structure in the Iranian leadership remains murky, assessments suggest Khamenei collaborates closely with top regime figures.

Contrasting Views: Khamenei's Role May Be Limited

US intelligence points to Khamenei's active hand in diplomatic maneuvers, yet another insider told CNN that signs point to a more restrained involvement.

This source indicated Khamenei might be distanced from core decisions, with only occasional availability for contact.

Because of his limited reach, high-ranking IRGC commanders and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf are effectively steering the government, according to the insider.

Yet another figure familiar with the intelligence shared with CNN: "There is no clear evidence of Khamenei issuing regular directives, though nothing rules it out entirely."

Since assuming the supreme leader position after his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, died in the strike that wounded him, US intelligence has failed to pinpoint his location.

A source explained to CNN that uncertainty about his position and health arises from his avoidance of digital communications.

He relies instead on face-to-face visits at his secret site or messengers to relay instructions, the source noted.

Khamenei Meets with Iran's President

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Thursday that he had met with Khamenei.

In footage aired by state media, Pezeshkian reflected: "The supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution impressed me with his clear vision and humble, genuine demeanor."

Two sources later informed Reuters that Khamenei is cognitively acute while healing from his wounds.
