The United States has launched another series of strikes after Iranian forces targeted a ship moving through the Strait of Hormuz.

Following the American response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps declared the waterway closed for an indefinite period and began assaults on US facilities along with allied positions across the area.

The IRGC reported strikes on an American installation in Jordan, while the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain faced incoming missiles and drones from Iran.

This development follows several incidents earlier in the week when three commercial tankers came under attack, leading to an exchange of fire between the US and Iran.

State media reported earlier on Sunday that Iran had shut the Strait after launching a naval cruise missile at a vessel attempting passage along an unauthorized path.

The Guards noted the ship received warning shots and halted after disregarding multiple directives, according to a statement issued through official channels.

Officials also cautioned that any further US moves tied to the closure would meet strong countermeasures, with additional sites in the region facing potential targeting.

Iran's parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, serving as chief negotiator with the US, posted on X that the period of unbalanced agreements has ended.

He added that prior warnings had been issued to honor commitments or face consequences, noting that reality now demands attention.

In a third round of strikes this week, US Central Command stated the IRGC had openly targeted a Cyprus-flagged vessel inside the Strait of Hormuz.

Centcom reported the MV GFS Galaxy suffered major engine room damage, preventing continuation of its voyage, and noted one crew member remains unaccounted for.

The UK's Maritime Trade Operations indicated military sources confirmed the vessel's crew abandoned ship and took to a lifeboat.

Centcom observed that Iran received another chance to uphold the Memorandum of Understanding after prior accountability for vessel attacks but again fell short.

The statement detailed US strikes on 140 Iranian military sites, encompassing missile and drone facilities, communication systems, and coastal monitoring points.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth shared the statement, commenting that Iran chose poorly and now faces the outcome.

The IRGC confirmed US strikes hit several coastal bases and telecommunications towers along the southern shoreline.

In reply, Iran described its initial retaliation phase as including attacks on the Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, claiming destruction of the command center and MQ9 drone facilities.

The closure follows calls for retribution from Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei in his first public remarks since assuming leadership.

His father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei, died in an air strike on 28 February during the opening day of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran and was interred in Mashhad on Friday.

Reading from state television, the new ayatollah described vengeance as the desire of the people.

He pledged to seek justice for the slain leader and all victims of the conflicts from those responsible, according to the broadcast.

The outcome does not hinge on any single official's presence, he stated, and will proceed regardless.

Many Iranians at recent funeral events displayed signs urging action against US President Donald Trump, who warned on Saturday that such efforts would prompt decisive US retaliation against Iranian territories.

The Wall Street Journal and additional US outlets reported this week that Israel passed intelligence indicating Iran had prepared a plan targeting the US president.

Trump rejected claims of a new scheme or Israeli involvement in any reports, telling the New York Post he had long held the top position on Iran's list.
