US, Israeli, and Palestinian officials denounced the violent clash between radical Israeli settlers and Palestinians near Abu Falah village in the West Bank on Friday, after Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine sustained injuries amid the fighting.

Israeli responses focused mainly on the need for additional inquiries to establish what happened, whereas US and Palestinian statements pointed to Israeli settlers as the ones who assaulted Levine.

US Representative Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, called the reported assault on Levine an unconscionable moment that demands global attention.

He questioned whether the world would accept rising vigilante attacks on Palestinian civilians and foreign observers by right-wing groups that enjoy official backing, as noted in his post on X.

Senator Andy Kim, a Democrat from New Jersey, described reports of a coordinated assault as deeply troubling, along with claims that IDF troops failed to step in.

He pledged to keep pressing for a full probe and consequences for those involved.

Representative Ro Khanna, a Democrat from California, urged the United States to end aid supporting settler activities and to stop weapons transfers.

Khanna also accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of labeling Levine a liar in response to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office that condemned the violence but stressed that details were still unclear and under review.

Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois criticized Israel for not keeping order and insisted authorities must punish those behind the attack while ending efforts to annex the West Bank.

IDF Probes Violent West Bank Clash Involving Extremist Settlers and Palestinians

The IDF reported that its troops and Border Police arrived at the site near Khirbet Abu Falah after learning of a violent confrontation.

Foreign media members were at the location, and a female journalist suffered an injury during the incident, the military noted.

Upon reaching the area, forces used riot control measures to break up the fighting. The IDF added that the full circumstances would be examined.

At another spot, soldiers fired warning shots and later directed fire at a suspect who approached them with a sharp object and posed a danger, according to the statement.

The IDF condemned attacks on civilians and warned that efforts to stir tensions between groups threaten regional security.

Netanyahu Seeks Probe as Details Stay Unclear

The Prime Minister's Office stated on X that Israel strongly rejects violence against any person, whether Jewish, Arab, Christian, or journalist, and that those responsible would face consequences.

The office noted reports of roughly 200 Arabs and left-wing activists confronting about 40 Israeli youths.

It emphasized that the investigation must determine who started the violence and vowed not to let disputed events be used to vilify the many law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria.

Yashar party chairman Gadi Eisenkot condemned the criminal violence and called for those responsible to be investigated and prosecuted, adding that a small group of rioters does not represent Israel and only harms national security.

Palestinian Mayor Describes Area as Hell

Nazem Saleh Shuman, mayor of Abu Falah near the violence site, told The New York Times that the location had become unlivable for residents living beside their fields and land.

He stressed that it is their ancestral home where they were born and have always lived, with nowhere else to go.

The NYT referenced data from Israeli rights group Yesh Din showing 82 violent incidents against olive harvesters, 135 cases of crop theft, and 39 instances of tree damage or destruction.

The Mateh Binyamin Regional Council blamed the Palestinian Authority for sparking the clash by leading hundreds of anarchists and terrorists into confrontation with Israelis during the olive harvest.

The council pointed to footage of fireworks and stones launched at Israelis, with journalists present, and alleged PA vehicles were at the scene.

Levine Recounts Being Kicked and Losing Equipment

Levine, who was covering the olive harvest, said masked attackers knocked her down and kicked her repeatedly.

She described how the assailants tried to force her up after about ten minutes, pushed her back down, and kept kicking while she tried to protect her cameras and bag.

In the end they took everything and continued the assault. Levine underwent surgery on Saturday for a nearly severed finger on her left hand, along with a broken rib, vertebral fractures, and multiple cuts.

Washington Post Executive Editor Matt Murray condemned the attack on a journalist clearly marked with identification and called for a thorough investigation.

The US Embassy in Jerusalem confirmed it was monitoring the situation.
