The United States sent a B-1 long-range bomber to attack Iran on Tuesday in a notable rise in operations since fighting resumed twelve days earlier, sources told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.

The initial mission with this bomber took place on Tuesday.

Per an Axios account, the B-1 started its flight from a base in the United Kingdom. Its path appeared on public flight-tracking sites, though the precise target remains unclear. This follows a Bloomberg News report that newly installed British Prime Minister Andy Burnham cleared British bases for US strikes on Iran.

Employing B-1 bombers, which hold capacity for two dozen 2000-pound bombs or dozens of cruise missiles, points to a clear expansion of the American campaign, Axios noted.

US Central Command made no reference to the B-1 in its statement on the overnight strikes against Iran.

The US ran several B-1 missions from February to April in Operation Epic Fury, striking missile sites, command posts, weapons depots, and air defenses. CENTCOM confirmed the activity in early March, while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth cautioned that B-2s, B-52s, B-1s, Predator drones, and fighter jets could soon dominate the skies over Iran.

Trump pledges to target Iranian infrastructure after Hormuz incidents

The B-1 report follows a Wall Street Journal account that President Donald Trump is weighing wider strikes on Iran, with fighters already positioned in the region and bombers on alert.

On Wednesday, Trump warned that the US would hit Iranian bridges and power plants each time Iran targets a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US will bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant, even those near or inside Tehran, Trump stated.

This response will follow any future Iranian attack on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, he added.
