Trump requests changes to enriched uranium terms in ceasefire draft

US President Donald Trump called for multiple revisions to the draft US-Iran peace agreement during a Friday meeting in the Situation Room, according to Axios, which cited a senior administration official along with another source familiar with the matter.

Although Trump aims to finalize the proposed Memorandum of Understanding promptly, officials indicated he seeks stronger provisions before signing, especially on matters involving Iran enriched uranium stocks.

One senior official explained that the focus lies on precise details for transferring the material and setting timelines. A deal remains likely, yet the administration is prepared to pause until the president receives the requested adjustments.

The same official projected that finalization might require about a week, though the period could prove shorter or longer, with hopes for progress by early next week.

Another source noted Trump also wants adjusted language concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Officials added that receiving Iran response could span several days, since negotiators operate from remote locations without email access.

The New York Times reported Saturday that Trump has expressed concern over clauses that might unfreeze certain Iranian funds.

Memorandum awaits final sign-off from leaders

Axios indicated Thursday that the proposed understanding would span 60 days and launch talks aimed at a lasting nuclear accord.

While Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, and US envoy Steve Witkoff reached preliminary alignment, both Trump and Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei must still approve the text.

A source close to the talks told Iran semi-official outlet Tasnim that any finalized agreement text would first reach Pakistani mediators before public release.
