The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology earned the 25th spot worldwide in a fresh ranking that measures how universities drive AI research, talent growth, and startup activity.

The Technion led all Israeli schools and ranked fourth across Europe. It also finished eighth globally for the share of graduates who start AI companies.

The AI Production Capacity index was developed by the US public relations firm W5 and lists the top 50 universities according to their impact on AI research and the broader industry.

The ranking reviews several elements, such as alumni and faculty working at major AI firms, entrepreneurship levels, human capital strength, startup founders, unicorn companies, venture funding, research volume and quality, computing resources, and the scope of AI coursework.

It further tracks how often universities appear in mentions by generative AI systems.

Technion Outperforms Larger Elite Universities

Although it works with notably smaller budgets than many leading global universities, the Technion exceeded several elite institutions in important parts of the index.

Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan emphasized that the result stands out because of the wide resource gap between the Technion and many top schools abroad.

“Despite the large difference in resources between the Technion and leading American universities along with other top institutions worldwide, the Technion has earned a place among the world’s leading universities and heads the Israeli list,” Sivan said.

“Technion researchers helped pioneer machine learning and laid early groundwork for broader AI leadership,” he added.

Sivan noted that the ranking reflects not only research strength but also the expanding role of AI throughout academic programs and industry partnerships in Israel and beyond.

“AI tools are now vital in the workplace, and we make sure our students gain these skills while building a solid base in mathematics, science, and engineering,” he said.

The university ranked ahead of Harvard in two areas: the number of faculty and graduates employed in the AI sector, and the number of alumni who founded AI companies.

Technion’s AI Results Hold Steady Across Rankings

When adjusted for size, the Technion’s alumni entrepreneurship performance matched that of Stanford, which led the overall list.

The Technion also earned a higher overall position than Duke, Northwestern, and the University of Pennsylvania, even though it manages with much smaller budgets.

Sivan pointed out that other global measures have shown similar outcomes, including CSRankings, which ranked the Technion first in Europe for AI papers at top international conferences.

“These results stem from a long-term, well-planned strategy supported by the outstanding people across the Technion community: our faculty and lecturers, leadership and staff, students, administrative teams, distinguished alumni, and friends worldwide,” he said.
