As an Israeli exploring destinations overseas these days, the common query about origins can prompt a brief pause while anticipating the reply. Yet Cyprus erases that tension entirely. Answers receive bright smiles, friendly gestures, and authentic warmth. Experiencing such heartfelt acceptance creates a deeply reassuring atmosphere where visitors feel embraced rather than merely tolerated.

The peak travel period is underway, and Cyprus stands prepared to greet Israeli tourists using its well-known friendly approach, according to Louisa Varaclas, director for Israel at the Cypriot Deputy Ministry of Tourism. With roughly 600,000 Israeli arrivals recorded in 2025, the market holds major importance. Travelers from Israel appreciate Cyprus for its resemblance to a familiar retreat, complete with friendly connections and strong feelings of safety.

On my fifth visit to the island, I participated in a media tour to sample the hospitality directly. Every trip reveals new aspects depending on the areas and accommodations visited. This itinerary focused on Paphos and Limassol. The Imperial Island Resort in Paphos served as the initial base. Room interiors impressed with their herringbone flooring that created a fresh, modern appearance. Its prime beachfront position along the promenade allows effortless coastal strolls. Nearby, the Agios Nikolaos church with its distinctive Santorini-inspired look offered a pleasant short walk.

The property completed an extensive upgrade to position itself as a premium five-star family option with all-inclusive service. Approximately half of its 239 rooms became family suites that separate adult and child sleeping zones. The design mixes lively family zones around the main and splash pools with calmer adult areas including a dedicated outdoor pool and indoor spa facility. Renovated public spaces throughout the lobby and spa feature refreshed aesthetics and added amenities.

Meals proved enjoyable, especially at the primary restaurant offering varied selections and live cooking areas. Additional venues include a Japanese eatery and a casual burger spot for variety.

Beyond the resort

Although poolside relaxation tempts, the nearby region provides many varied activities. Time split between urban exploration in Paphos and excursions into surrounding landscapes combined city sights with countryside and seaside settings.

Exploration started at historic Paphos Castle, a former Byzantine structure guarding the harbor that now frames the waterfront beautifully alongside the promenade. Close by, the renowned Paphos mosaics, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, displayed impressive detail and condition.

Next came Pano Paphos on the hills, known for its narrow pedestrian lanes, small shops, and cafes. At The Place, visitors found local food items and crafts while joining an on-site mosaic art session to create personal pieces.

Kings Avenue Mall provides standard retail options with international labels. The Aphrodite Waterpark nearby delivers slides and attractions suited to various ages, including a kosher food option. Cyprus hosts some of Europe's largest water parks.

A traditional tavern evening remains essential, and Demokritos Tavern supplied an energetic night. Long tables encouraged sharing plates while music built a festive mood that eventually involved everyone. The performers ended by performing a Hebrew song as a thoughtful touch.

Outside Paphos

A regional day trip began with a scenic route through Peyia to Kathikas village. Vasilikon Winery, a family estate established in 1993 and among Cyprus's larger producers, offered tastings of local grapes such as Xinisteri along with a museum on village winemaking history.

The Steni Museum of Rural Life followed, presenting regional costumes, implements, and fabrics. Entry is complimentary, though a guide enhances understanding of the items.

Lunch occurred at the Baths of Aphrodite restaurant on the Akamas Peninsula reserve beside the famed springs. From a cliffside terrace, the Greek seafood meze tasted excellent amid sweeping bay views.

Returning, stops at the Peyia Sea Caves and nearby Edro III shipwreck proved worthwhile for their dramatic coastal scenery and photographic appeal.

The Royal Apollonia

The journey continued at The Royal Apollonia in Limassol. Contrasting Paphos's calmer vibe, Limassol offers a dynamic urban setting with active commerce and evening entertainment. The hotel uses its beachfront space efficiently with a central pool featuring a swim-up bar above a small sandy shore that became a personal highlight. Wellness facilities include a spa with indoor pool and a gym offering fitness sessions.

Dining extends beyond the main restaurant to a Greek venue and Akakiko, a Japanese fusion spot. Akakiko particularly appealed with its skillfully prepared fusion dishes, fresh sushi, sashimi, and hot selections.

After prior city exploration in Limassol, focus shifted to Ayia Napa and Protaras. The next morning began at the updated marina mixing beach spots and eateries, including Riva Beach House by Frame, an Israeli-origin beach club with pool and organized shoreline.

Following the marina, a boat excursion around Cape Greco and Turtle Cove emerged as a trip highlight. The coastal route passed the Love Bridge rock formation, sea caves, and shoreline churches with swimming or snorkeling stops. Options range from larger boats to those with slides, and similar departures are available from Latchi.

Louis Hotels manages multiple Cyprus properties including the Louis St. Elias Resort and Waterpark, a family all-inclusive with slides and child facilities. The group runs about 18 sites across Paphos, Limassol, and Protaras spanning family resorts, urban boutiques, and adults-only options. Though not kosher certified, meals can be arranged via Chabad and served on request.

The Israeli market ranks among key sources, prompting over 30 million euros invested recently to enhance properties for family all-inclusive and adults-only preferences, explains Charalambos Lardas, business development manager at Louis Hotels.

The chain currently provides discounts up to 35 percent on summer bookings made by June 20, with minimum stay rules and complimentary loyalty membership.
