Foreign Ministry logs 45 antisemitic incidents against Israelis abroad in past year

Ministry officials note an unprecedented surge in antisemitic events. These encompassed physical assaults, altercations, spitting, verbal harassment, refusal of service, and removal from hotels, cafes and restaurants.

Israel's Foreign Ministry recorded 45 reports of antisemitic incidents involving Israelis overseas since July 2025, according to its latest Map of Distress release.

Officials describe this as an all-time high for such events. Cases ranged from physical assaults and fights to spitting, verbal abuse, denial of service, and expulsions from hotels, cafes and restaurants.

Deputy Director-General for Consular Affairs Eli Yifrah stated that Israelis have increasingly reached out after facing antisemitic incidents while traveling abroad, a trend not seen at this level previously.

In multiple nations, Israelis were singled out due to their nationality or visible Israeli symbols, leading to harassment, threats and physical attacks.

Beyond the 45 antisemitic cases, consular teams handled 384 missing persons reports, 292 citizen arrests, 196 hospitalizations, 149 rescues from risky zones and 23 natural disaster involvements.

Leading nations for assistance included the United Arab Emirates with 615 cases, followed by Thailand at 347, Greece at 206, the United States at 202 and Italy at 181.

Consular systems managed nearly 200,000 cases in the first half of 2026. This covered returning 846 deceased Israelis for burial at home, primarily from New York and Paris.

The release coincides with the TravIL emergency app launch two weeks prior.

Ministry representatives emphasize these numbers highlight the app's value in prevention and rapid response during crises.

Features include a secure vault for passport copies to ease replacements and a location-based alert that sends GPS data straight to the Situation Room in Jerusalem.

The consular network operates nonstop via global missions to support citizens in everyday and urgent matters, Yifrah noted.

He added that rising activity stems from more Israelis traveling and ongoing security challenges since the Swords of Iron War began.
