The United States is considering Iran's Pickaxe Mountain nuclear site for a potential future strike, US President Donald Trump stated in a Newsmax interview on Thursday.

"We may have to go there," he remarked. "We'll take a shot at that one. We'll knock it out fast."

He clarified that US ground forces would not participate in any such operation, noting "No, I don't see that. I don't see that."

Trump also avoided confirming prior reports that the US planned to deploy a GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb (MOAB), often called the "mother of all bombs," against Iran.

Rather, he highlighted that the MOAB remains a non-nuclear device.

"It's like a tiny nuclear bomb. The mother of all bombs is one big bomb, but it's not nuclear," he stated.

Earlier that day, CNN reported from multiple US officials that plans involved using the MOAB, the largest non-nuclear weapon in the US arsenal, against Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear locations including Pickaxe Mountain.

Trump notes US might need to reenter conflict if withdrawal occurs within the year

Trump addressed the chance of concluding the war with Iran, warning that pulling out within the next year would probably require returning later.

"We want to make it so that they will never have a nuclear weapon, because if they had it, they would use it, in my opinion, instantaneously," he explained.

Still, Trump voiced optimism that the conflict would conclude shortly.

The Iran war will be over very soon. It's going to end very soon," he said, noting that Iran is now in talks with the US.

"They've asked us to please stop. And we do, because we're negotiating with them."
