One Israeli died and four others suffered wounds, two of them serious and two light, in a shooting near Gilad Farm southwest of Nablus in the northern West Bank on Friday morning.

Israeli hikers in the area came under attack from Palestinians they met there, according to IDF reports.

The victim, identified as 32-year-old Bnayahu Malat, served on the local emergency response team and was killed while trying to protect the hikers from the assault.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters aged 13 and 12.

Security forces tracked the attacker, engaged him and ended the threat after the initial gunfire.

The head of the emergency squad and fellow members responded to calls around 8:20 a.m. after Palestinians seized the squad leader weapon and opened fire on the group, according to Walla.

Authorities recovered the stolen firearm once the attacker was neutralized.

Magen David Adom teams arrived to treat the injured. One paramedic described caring for a conscious 25-year-old with an upper-body gunshot wound who was stabilized before transfer to a military helicopter.

The same responder later joined an IDF medical unit treating an unconscious man with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite extended efforts the patient was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two wounded individuals reached Sourasky Medical Center Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, where one remains in critical condition and the other in serious condition, a hospital spokesperson said. United Hatzalah reported the critical patient is about 30 years old and the seriously wounded patient about 25.

Two additional Israelis received on-site care for minor injuries, United Hatzalah noted.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir scheduled talks on the appropriate response, the Prime Minister Office stated.

Netanyahu pledged firm action against terrorists and their backers and vowed to prevent terrorism from gaining ground in Judea and Samaria.

The attack follows two stabbings the previous day, marking the third terror incident in the West Bank inside 24 hours.

Zamir convened a situational review with Central Command Chief Maj.-Gen. Avi Bluth and Operations Directorate Chief Maj.-Gen. Itzik Cohen.

Additional IDF units were ordered into the area to secure it and deter further attacks.

President Isaac Herzog called for unity and resolve, expressing heartbreak over Malat death.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir urged harsh measures against the villages of the attackers, comparing them to past actions in Beit Hanun.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich offered condolences, prayed for the wounded and demanded an iron-fist response to restore deterrence.

Samaria Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan described an ongoing incident and called for a large-scale operation against the Palestinian Authority and Hamas to end the terror wave.

Former prime minister Naftali Bennett voiced support for the residents and security forces while condemning the attacks.

Former IDF chief Gadi Eisenkot stressed the need for systematic enforcement and strong strikes against those who target civilians.

Mateh Binyamin Regional Council Head Israel Ganz described the events as part of planned and repeated terrorism rather than isolated acts.

Otzma Yehudit MK Limor Son Har-Melech criticized senior IDF officers for what she called insufficient defense of West Bank residents.

Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Liberman called the situation a loss of control and demanded decisive strength against terror.

The Palestinian Health Ministry claimed at least four Palestinians were killed and four wounded, three critically, though the IDF had not confirmed those figures at the time of reporting.

Local Fatah leader Essam Saifi told Reuters that settlers first attacked homes and later returned, leading to chaos before the military arrived.
