Motorola Solutions to acquire Israeli pioneer in counter-drone technology via major 1.5 billion USD agreement

The pact to purchase D-Fend, which functions in more than 30 countries and projects 185 million USD revenue for 2026, takes advantage of the Safer Skies Act.

Motorola Solutions declared on Monday its intention to buy D-Fend Solutions, an Israel-headquartered frontrunner in counter-drone technology, for 1.5 billion USD.

The transaction is projected to conclude during the fourth quarter of 2026.

Motorola's move to secure D-Fend, operating across more than 30 countries with anticipated 2026 revenue of 185 million USD, builds on the Safer Skies Act passed within the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act.

This law empowers local law enforcement agencies to spot and follow unauthorized drones while neutralizing credible threats in domestic airspace, an area once reserved solely for federal oversight.

At the same time, drone warfare continues to reshape modern battlefields, leaving few effective countermeasures in active zones such as Ukraine and Lebanon.

D-Fend stands out as an innovator in airspace defense by creating non-kinetic tools to neutralize drones and related aerial risks.

Motorola Chairman and CEO Greg Brown emphasized that drone mitigation represents a critical near-term priority requiring substantial resources.

“Rogue drones have transformed our skies into a landscape of unpredictable risk, where simple detection is no longer enough,” he said.

“With D-Fend, drone threats are not just identified - their communications are overridden and redirected, safely bringing them to the ground, keeping people and communities safe.”

D-Fend CEO and co-founder Zohar Halachmi highlighted the shared advantages of the acquisition, noting that integration with Motorola Solutions will speed up efforts to protect airspace.

“By leveraging Motorola Solutions’ deep expertise and long-term customer relationships across public safety, federal, and enterprise, we can deliver even greater impact to the communities and organizations we serve.”

D-Fend, established in 2017, relies on its cyber-focused EnforceAir platform that locates drones and assumes control through their radio frequencies instead of destroying them.

This approach proves valuable in settings where conventional counter-drone actions could pose hazards, including airports, vital infrastructure, and dense urban areas.

As the acquisition advances toward completion, Motorola appears positioned to lead in the emerging deregulated domestic airspace sector.
