Morocco, Albania, and Greece are set to take part in the International Stabilization Force for Gaza, which will manage peacekeeping duties during Phase II of the Trump administration ceasefire, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

Exact deployment schedules for the three nations remain unclear, yet earlier reports from mid-January noted that Morocco would partner with Indonesia as the largest contributors to the peacekeeping effort.

A modest contingent of Moroccan planning officers has already arrived to join talks on the future International Stabilization Force for Gaza, representing an initial operational move toward the long-awaited multinational unit, the Post has learned.

The officers are focused solely on planning tasks and will not enter Gaza at this time, according to officials close to the matter. Their numbers are believed to be in the single digits.

The step carries weight because Morocco had already been listed among expected ISF participants, and the officers arrival indicates that some commitments are shifting from announcements to concrete preparation.

Indonesia leads ISF mission with plan for 8,000 troops in Gaza

The news follows months after the Post first reported that Morocco and Albania were slated to join the ISF, which will oversee key peacekeeping roles in Gaza during Phase II of the Trump administration ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. KAN News also indicated at that time that Greece would participate.

These updates came after Indonesia was announced as the first nation to join the ISF mission. The Associated Press noted that Indonesia planned to start with 1,000 soldiers in April and scale up to roughly 8,000 by June, though doubts persisted about whether conditions on the ground would permit the deployment.

In February, ISF commander US Army Maj.-Gen. Jasper Jeffers stated that Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania had pledged troops. Egypt and Jordan, he added, had agreed to train Palestinian police forces.

Jeffers outlined a long-term goal of 20,000 troops for the ISF along with training for 12,000 police officers. The force was expected to launch operations in Rafah and expand gradually sector by sector.

Morocco role stands out as particularly sensitive. The kingdom normalized ties with Israel under the Abraham Accords in 2020 and has sustained close defense cooperation since.

A Moroccan contribution to Gaza postwar security would carry notable diplomatic influence, especially among Arab and Muslim-majority countries still considering participation in the US-backed initiative.

In December 2025, the Post reported that the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Center was already coordinating with Israel and international partners on Gaza reconstruction and ISF preparations.

That work covered movement of the force between Israel and Gaza, transfer of materials through Israel for stabilization projects, and development of rules of engagement.

At the time, defense sources described extensive discussions about the force but little concrete progress toward deployment.

The IDF has also consulted with the CMCC on the ISF mission parameters. Israel has urged clear objectives for disarming Hamas and avoiding a repeat of what officials call a UNIFIL 2 scenario, referencing long-standing criticism of the UN force in Lebanon for failing to curb Hezbollah.

Israeli officials have voiced worries that an international force might merely monitor ceasefire lines without directly addressing Hamas or removing its weapons.

ISF tasked with ceasefire oversight, not direct combat with Hamas

Earlier Post reporting showed that the ISF and contributing nations, including Indonesia, were not expected to engage Hamas directly in the opening phase.

Instead, the force is slated to monitor existing ceasefire lines and possibly manage additional border matters.

No firm schedule exists for a larger Moroccan deployment, and it is still uncertain whether Rabat will send combat troops, police personnel, or a smaller support unit.

At present, Morocco involvement appears confined to planning activities.

Yet within the stalled postwar security framework in Gaza, even this limited Moroccan presence could signal the first steps toward an operational ISF.
