The leader of a local authority was detained Monday by the National Fraud Investigation Unit within Lahav 433 on suspicion of public corruption involvement.

Officials residences and authority offices face searches while more senior figures receive summons for questioning.

Israel Police stated that the probe receives support from additional enforcement and supervisory bodies cooperating according to their activity areas, including the Civil Administration, the Tax Authority, the Electric Company, the Civil Attorney Office, the Land Enforcement Authority, and others.

At the same time enforcement actions occur at multiple sites within the council territory alongside those bodies. The inquiry remains in early stages with further actions anticipated.

Senior league soccer player arrested by Lahav 433 on suspicion of match-fixing

Last week officers detained a well-known soccer player from a leading Israeli team on suspicion of systematic gambling and match fixing.

The arrest came from Lahav 433 Sports Gambling and Bribery Division personnel during an inquiry into a gang from Migdal Ha'emek handled by the units Northern Economic Crime Unit. The active player faces suspicion of large-scale illegal gambling, match fixing, money laundering offenses, and tax violations allegedly carried out with others.

Team officials where the player holds a contract expressed surprise upon learning of the matter Sunday morning. The club plans to review details and may move to end the contract if the allegations prove credible and substantiated.
