Former Gaza hostages Keith and Aviva Siegel discovered they will soon become grandparents once more on Monday, with their daughter Shir Siegel sharing the moment via her Instagram account.

In the video, Shir Siegel offered her parents a cookie jar as a gift. Aviva unwrapped it to reveal a positive pregnancy test, prompting cheers and an embrace with her daughter.

The Siegels have four children named Shai, Gal, Elan, and Shir, along with five grandchildren already. This marks the first child for Shir Siegel and her husband Yuval Bar-On.

The announcement arrives nearly three years after Keith and Aviva Siegel were abducted on October 7, pulled from their safe room and taken across the border at knifepoint.

Though initially held together, Aviva gained release after 50 days, while Keith endured 484 days in captivity. The pair have since become vocal advocates following their time in Gaza, which they characterized as involving both mental and physical torment.

Holding onto hope for family kept the Siegels going in captivity

"I was alone without any other hostages for six months, a 60-year-old man, completely alone, not knowing the fate of my loved ones," Keith Siegel stated in testimony to the UN Committee Against Torture last November.

The Siegels noted that belief in their family's well-being helped sustain them during Hamas captivity, rendering their daughter's news especially meaningful.

"We felt firsthand the meaning of holding on to hope even in the hardest moments," Keith Siegel remarked at the SID Israel conference in January.

At the gathering, the couple explained that their Gaza experience spurred them toward humanitarian efforts. They joined forces with IsraAID, a prominent Israeli aid group, and plan to travel with the organization to Kenya to visit the Kakuma refugee camp, the largest in the world.
