US Vice President JD Vance stated Monday afternoon that substantial progress occurred during the recent US-Iran discussions in Switzerland, following the end of the sessions and the Iranian delegation's reported exit.

He pointed out that the Strait of Hormuz stays open and that a solid base now exists for reaching a successful final agreement.

Regarding the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon, Vance noted that while protecting Israel's security remains essential, Lebanon's sovereignty must also be upheld, describing the matter as an ongoing conversation.

All parties seek a regional ceasefire, he added.

On the topic of unfrozen Iranian assets to be returned under the deal, Vance explained that the United States seeks a process ensuring funds support citizens instead of terrorism.

Technical discussions will continue over the coming days and weeks, Vance confirmed.

Regarding the nuclear program, Vance said the Iranians have formally agreed to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency back into their nuclear sites.

Nuclear inspections could begin possibly this week, Vance said, or even as soon as today.

First Round of US-Iran Talks in Switzerland Ends

Mediators Qatar and Pakistan announced the conclusion of the first negotiation session in a joint statement Monday morning.

The two countries described the atmosphere as positive and constructive, even amid reports that the Iranian delegation had left talks Sunday night to protest US President Donald Trump's warnings about resuming strikes if the Strait of Hormuz stayed closed.

Iran and the US also agreed to form a High-Level Committee for political oversight in future talks, according to the joint statement.

Chief negotiators will provide regular updates to the committee, which has set a roadmap aiming for a final deal within 60 days.

The US and Iran further agreed to create a deconfliction cell to help ensure the end of Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
