Israeli police announced Thursday they have solved the attempted assassination of Arraba Mayor Dr. Ahmad Nassar, who was shot in the northern Israeli city on March 8.

Authorities submitted a prosecutor's declaration charging the suspected gunman, a 26-year-old Arraba resident, and the individual who allegedly ordered the hit, a 56-year-old relative of the mayor.

Investigators linked the shooting to disputes over garbage disposal contracts in the city.

In the attack, Nassar was struck by seven bullets and suffered serious injuries. Dr. Anwar Yassin, head of Arraba's popular committee, sustained moderate wounds.

Detectives amassed evidence connecting the 56-year-old suspect to the plot, asserting he directed the shooter to carry out the assault.

Prosecutors plan to file formal indictments against both suspects in the days ahead.

Violence in Arab Communities Crosses Critical Threshold

The shooting sparked broad outrage from civil society organizations and local activists, who highlighted it as a alarming escalation in violence plaguing Arab society.

The Abraham Initiatives responded to the March event by stating violence in Arab communities had "crossed a red line" through targeting a public servant.

"This goes beyond an Arab issue - it signals total collapse," the group declared at the time. "An attempt to kill a mayor strikes at the core institutions of state governance."

The organization demanded swift government intervention, stressing the incident represented "not only a governance crisis but a direct danger to Israeli democracy," and called on police to capture the assailants and ensure justice.

The Forum of Families of Murder Victims in Arab Society, organized with support from Standing Together, also condemned the attack, warning that "crime persists unchecked."

"Criminal networks fear nothing, especially not Israel's struggling police force," the forum stated. "As we told the President, the state needs a complete shift in tackling skyrocketing crime and its toll on Arab communities. Forsaking citizens to brutality and lawlessness poses the greatest threat to our existence."
