Iran says talks with Oman focused on Strait of Hormuz traffic

The US military conducted new attacks on Iran after a container ship incident, while Tehran reported reclosing the Strait of Hormuz and increasing strikes on American facilities.

Iran and Oman conducted discussions on Saturday regarding protocols for handling sea traffic and vessel movement in the Strait of Hormuz, according to an Iranian Foreign Ministry representative.

The nations consented to pursue further conversations to achieve mutual agreement on protecting navigation in the strait. A group from Qatar participated in portions of the meetings, the representative noted.

The US military conducted new attacks on Iran subsequent to the strike on a container ship earlier in the week, as Tehran reported reclosing the Strait of Hormuz and intensifying operations against US installations throughout the Gulf region.

Trump Announces Conclusion of Ceasefire Intended to Prevent Assaults on US and Israeli Objectives

Multiple exchanges of attacks involving the US and Iran in recent days prompted US President Donald Trump to state the termination of a ceasefire designed to stop the conflict initiated by the US and Israel on February 28, although Trump has indicated openness to ongoing talks.

Iran explained the closure of the strait following a warning shot that hit a ship on an unauthorized path. It cautioned that any counteraction to the event would face a "strong reaction."

US Central Command stated, however, that commercial ships persist in passing through the passage that transported one-fifth of global oil and LNG deliveries prior to the conflict.
