Iran has launched a growing wave of retaliatory strikes throughout the area. The most recent incidents in Kuwait have sparked fears that Tehran now feels free to hit targets anywhere. Iranian officials insist these moves merely counter prior US operations.

Tehran stated that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps carried out a combined missile and drone strike on the US Navy Fifth Fleet headquarters through its Aerospace Force.

Officials described the action as payback for repeated American strikes. The US had targeted an Iranian oil tanker to block its passage through the Strait of Hormuz. In reply, IRGC naval units fired on the MSC Panaya, which they linked to American and Israeli interests.

Additional strikes followed. The US hit a communications tower on southern Qeshm Island. Iran then responded with missile and drone attacks on a US air and helicopter base in a nearby nation plus the Fifth Fleet headquarters, according to state media IRNA.

Tehran further raised the pressure by striking Kuwait overnight.

Kuwait foreign ministry officials condemned the assault on key civilian sites including Kuwait International Airport. One person died and several others suffered injuries while diplomatic facilities also sustained damage.

Authorities shifted flights to Terminal 4 following the strikes, as another terminal suffered partial destruction.

The ministry highlighted harm to essential infrastructure and voiced strong opposition to the rising tensions. Iran warned that interference with Strait of Hormuz security would exact a steep cost on US forces.

The IRGC appears to direct these operations while the regular army remains sidelined. Iranian naval and air units suffered heavy losses from earlier US and Israeli actions in February and March.

Saudi Arabia along with fellow Gulf states have addressed the fresh wave of attacks. All seek to prevent further escalation. Kuwait, long positioned as neutral amid Iran tensions, now finds itself on the front line due to its shared border and numerous US installations.

UAE condemns Iran's attacks on neighbors

The UAE Foreign Ministry denounced the Iranian strikes on Kuwait and Bahrain. Presidential advisor Anwar Gargash urged a united Gulf response to the latest escalation.

Given the repeated aggression against sister states Kuwait and Bahrain, a firm and unified Gulf position is essential. No state should confront such targeting alone since regional security remains linked, Gargash noted on X.

Kuwait Al-Jarida media outlets published multiple reports on the events.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation confirmed Wednesday that Kuwait Airways flights would resume solely from Terminal T4 once damage assessments and safety checks concluded. Terminal 1 incurred serious harm during the strikes.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry issued its strongest condemnation of the ongoing ballistic missile and drone assaults described as brutal.

Officials stressed that Kuwait security, sovereignty and citizen safety represent an uncrossable line. They labeled the pattern an organized aggressive strategy that Kuwait rejects and will not endure, reserving the right to respond under international law.

Iran's attacks raise the stakes

These Iranian actions elevate risks across the Gulf. Tehran demonstrates willingness to keep raising the level of response to each US strike while signaling no intention to retreat. Observers question whether this pattern becomes routine or if Washington and Tehran can reach an agreement. Iran aims to project power by generating disorder along an extended front from Lebanon through Iraq, Kuwait, the Gulf and the Red Sea.
