The opening stage of discussions between the United States and Iran aimed at finalizing an agreement to conclude the conflict has wrapped up with encouraging headway, according to mediators Qatar and Pakistan.

In a combined announcement released early Monday, Qatar and Pakistan noted that a High Level Committee had settled on a clear path forward to secure a complete accord inside 60 days.

Iranian foreign minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi highlighted substantial advances in efforts to resolve the fighting in Lebanon.

The memorandum of understanding reached last week features pledges to halt hostilities across every front, including Lebanon, along with restoring access through the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistani and Qatari mediation has secured important steps to conclude the Lebanon conflict, Araghchi stated on social media.

Oil and petrochemical shipments are now exempt, the blockade has been removed, select frozen assets have been freed, and a significant reconstruction and development initiative for Iran has been initiated.

Iranian negotiators have departed Switzerland, the site of the Sunday talks, with Iranian outlets reporting that technical talks among the parties will proceed.

The mediators noted in their statement that a direct communication channel has been established to prevent mishaps and ensure safe transit for commercial ships via the Strait of Hormuz.

The parties also consented to forming a de-confliction unit involving the US, Iran, and Lebanon, supported by the mediators, to cease military actions in Lebanon. Araghchi called this the first genuine trial.

Since the memorandum was signed, clashes have intensified between Hezbollah and Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, accompanied by Israeli strikes that Lebanese health authorities report have claimed numerous lives, including women and children.

A fresh ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect on Friday. Ongoing exchanges and strikes led Iran on Saturday to declare the Strait of Hormuz closed, although tracking information indicates vessels have kept passing through.

As the talks opened in Lucerne, Trump urged Iran to halt actions by its proxies in Lebanon and warned of strong responses if the situation persisted.

Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf replied that threats had not altered the current circumstances and emphasized that actions would speak louder than words.

On Sunday, reports indicated reduced fighting, yet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed that forces would stay in southern Lebanon as long as needed to safeguard northern Israel.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem dismissed any lasting Israeli presence in the south and affirmed readiness to defend against incursions.

Before the sessions at Burgenstock, US negotiator Vice-President JD Vance noted that Trump had directed the team to begin anew.

He stated that if Iranian leaders chose to abandon roles as sources of regional instability and long-term nuclear ambitions, the US would consider a fundamental shift in relations.

Iran maintains that its nuclear activities remain peaceful in nature.

Under the preliminary accord, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route carrying 20 percent of global oil and gas supplies.

The US consented to end its naval restrictions on vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports.

The agreement also encompasses a 300 billion dollar reconstruction program for Iran and the removal of all categories of sanctions.

However, matters concerning Iran's nuclear program remain open for further negotiation.

On Sunday, several vessels were observed entering, leaving, and crossing the strait according to maritime tracking data, despite Iran's disputed closure announcement.

The initial pact called for an end to fighting on all fronts, yet Israeli strikes in Lebanon have since resulted in at least 67 deaths while Hezbollah actions have claimed five Israeli soldiers.

Israel has maintained that its Hezbollah conflict stands apart from the broader war with Iran that began on 28 February alongside US involvement.

Lebanon entered the conflict soon after when Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel following the strike that killed Iran's supreme leader.

Israel launched extensive air operations across Lebanon and took control of roughly 5 percent of southern territory to push Hezbollah back from its northern border, with no plans to withdraw.

Since 2 March, Lebanese health authorities report at least 4,106 deaths, without distinguishing combatants from civilians.

Israeli officials state that 36 soldiers and four civilians have been killed along the border areas.
