Security officials warn that continued incidents with a month remaining in the harvest season risk escalating frictions across the West Bank.

The IDF plans to add combat troops to its West Bank units following a sharp rise in nationalist attacks on Palestinians in recent days during the annual olive harvest.

"The olive harvest period is always delicate and draws various groups including outsiders who do not reside in Judea and Samaria but arrive to disrupt the work. It is worth noting that coordination with the IDF is unnecessary in 98 percent of cases and required in only 2 percent of the area" a security official stated.

In the last day Palestinian vehicles were burned and damaged in several spots especially near Ramallah under the Binyamin Regional Brigade.

Jewish groups have taken olives picked by Palestinians and attacked several residents causing injuries. A Washington Post photojournalist was also hurt in the clashes. No arrests have been made in these events.

The surge in violence just one week into the harvest has led to plans for a security review soon.

Officials fear ongoing attacks will worsen tensions in West Bank

With another month of harvesting ahead security officials fear further violence will increase strains across the West Bank.

"The IDF is positioned at coordinated harvest sites to avoid clashes" the official noted. "At the same time warnings of terrorist attacks have risen with dozens received each week."

"This week alone a group of four terrorists planning an attack was detained near Jenin" he continued. "Yet these same units must also safeguard the olive harvest."

The official condemned rabbis who back the harvest-related violence saying their support fuels the incidents.

"This must stop. Nationalist crime has several causes yet backing from such figures plays a role" the official added.
