IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir called the Hezbollah terror group exhausted while addressing Israeli troops at Beaufort Ridge in southern Lebanon on Sunday, according to a military statement.

He stressed the value of seizing the Beaufort zone from militant hands, describing the location as filled with terror facilities.

"Your accomplishments have left Hezbollah weakened," Zamir told the forces. "It now depends on its Iranian backer for rescue."

Accompanied by senior commanders, the IDF chief inspected a tunnel under Israeli control during an operational review.

"Hezbollah, backed and guided by Iran, spent years building tunnels across this zone to endanger northern Israeli communities," he said. "Our units now hold firm control of this vital ground on the surface and below."

Zamir addressed Lebanese duties under the US-brokered ceasefire, requiring them to remove all Hezbollah fighters and related sites from the region.

"The IDF will keep acting firmly to eliminate threats from Lebanese soil and stands ready to shift quickly to offensive moves if the truce is broken," he stated.

Zamir credits IDF efforts for Lebanon accord

Zamir said the Lebanon agreement could not have occurred without soldier courage and Northern Command leadership, praising the 36th Division for its Litani River crossing and strikes on Hezbollah positions.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun backed the ceasefire framework earlier Sunday, per an Al-Jadeed account.

"I am not fond of Israel, yet offer me another path, any path," Aoun remarked. "I urge opponents of this plan to provide an alternative that ends the fighting."

The framework sets out a clear sequence for Hezbollah disarmament and conditions allowing an IDF exit from southern Lebanon, the US State Department noted.
