The IDF has initiated the creation of an official foundational principles document designed to clarify and redefine the military's values, while specifying what actions are allowed and forbidden, as reported by N12 on Wednesday.

The document will also tackle the IDF's impartial stance in light of the upcoming elections by outlining its policies clearly, per the report.

The chief of staff has stressed recently that politics will not be tolerated within the IDF.

The document is set to be completed in the upcoming weeks and shared with commanders across the IDF, N12 indicated.

This follows discussions by the General Staff over recent months, where information on a significant drop in discipline was shown to IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir and top military leaders.

Viral Images and Videos Spotlight IDF Misconduct

This drop is evident in the ignoring of military orders and ethical lapses, some of which have been covered in the media recently, N12 noted.

Two months ago, an IDF soldier received a 30-day military prison sentence after Zamir spotted him with a "Messiah" patch on his uniform.

Additionally, the platoon commander got a suspended 14-day detention, the company commander was reprimanded, and the battalion commander received a formal note on his record.

In May, the IDF gave a soldier 21 days in military prison for desecrating a Christian religious symbol in southern Lebanon, and another soldier got 14 days for recording the event.

In April, a soldier was caught on video destroying a statue of Jesus. Both the soldier who broke the statue and the one filming were taken out of combat positions and sentenced to 30 days in military prison.

Six other soldiers at the scene who failed to intervene or report it faced strong criticism from the IDF, which stated that their behavior strayed far from IDF orders and values.
