Hamas carried out the execution of a Palestinian man in the Gaza Strip on accusations of collaborating with Israel, according to a report published Thursday by the London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.

The report referenced a Wednesday statement from Gaza's Hamas-linked Resistance Security, which indicated that the group had put to death a man identified only as M.M. for his alleged work with Israeli intelligence services.

The statement noted that the actions of the 47-year-old M.M. resulted in the deaths of several Palestinians, among them former Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades commander Izz al-Din Haddad.

Hamas sources informed Asharq Al-Awsat that M.M. was detained shortly after Haddad's killing in May, when he was observed in contact with Israeli intelligence operatives.

The sources further reported that M.M. was seen at Gaza's Al-Shifa Hospital confirming the identities of those killed during the Israeli strike targeting Haddad.

They stated that M.M. admitted to the accusations right after his detention and acknowledged his presence at the location of the strike on Haddad.

M.M. also confessed to supplying Israel with details that contributed to the elimination of around 30 Gaza militants, the sources added. They pointed out that surveillance equipment was discovered on M.M. during his arrest.

Recent appeals for demonstrations in Gaza last month received little response despite nearly three years of destruction since the October 7 massacre, underscoring how Hamas control has prevented most residents from voicing opposition.

One Gaza City resident told The Jerusalem Post that no one can grasp the depth of fear and intimidation Hamas has created in people's hearts since its establishment in 1987. People remain too frightened to demonstrate, even after everything they have endured.

This stems from Hamas continuing to dominate daily life, leaving residents unable to speak out, he noted.

The protest effort failed due to intense pressure on individuals to stay silent, he explained. Anyone thinking of taking part avoided doing so because participants were branded as traitors and agents of disorder.

Severe threats issued to protestors

According to a Ynet report, unnamed Gazan sources indicated that Hamas militants were sent out to stop protests from expanding.

They said the militants were stationed near assembly areas, civilian movement around displacement camps was limited, and phones were taken from participants or those connected to the protest calls in certain instances.
