Army Radio released previously unseen Hamas papers on Sunday that illuminate the terror organization's ties with Hezbollah in the lead-up to the October 7 attack, featuring requests for the Lebanese group to take part and outlines of shared strategy sessions with Iran.

The release comes after a June report in The Jerusalem Post detailing Hamas internal files that tracked the group's 2022-2023 efforts to lull Israel into a false sense of security ahead of the assault.

The files also confirm Hezbollah's empty assurance to support Hamas on October 7, prompted by concerns about Israel's likely response, consistent with earlier Post coverage.

By 2019 Hamas had stepped up work on its scheme to overcome the Gaza Division.

Ismail Haniyeh, then head of Hamas's political bureau, wrote to former Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah that his brothers and family in Palestine trusted he would stand with them against their foe and remain a source of aid until success.

Nasrallah was eliminated by the IDF on September 27, 2024.

A comparable message went to Iran's former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The documents further disclose that a shared intelligence center opened in Beirut during the 2021 Operation Guardian of the Walls, linking Hamas, Hezbollah, and the IRGC.

The papers state Hezbollah blocked an Israeli strike on Hamas's extensive Metro tunnel network in Gaza and alerted the group to IDF movements nearby.

Hezbollah also aided efforts to shield Hamas's former Northern Brigade commander Ahmad al-Ghandour from elimination in 2021.

Ghandour was later killed by the IDF in November 2023 together with Rocket Division commander Ayman Siam.

Planning the October 7 Attack

In May 2022 senior Hamas figures, Nasrallah, and IRGC Palestine Corps commander Saeed Izadi, who helped shape the October 7 operation, gathered in Beirut to review ways to widen the fight against Israel.

After Nasrallah voiced doubts about striking Israel, Yahya Sinwar wrote to him outlining possible attack routes, among them coordinated advances from Jordan and Syria.

Sinwar was killed by the IDF on October 16, 2024.

Although Sinwar pushed for the massacre, a Hamas military intelligence memo noted that some members of both groups expressed reservations.
