Two Dynacom-managed tankers targeted near Oman as US-Iran tensions rise

Greek shipping company Dynacom Tankers reported that two vessels under its management were struck by projectiles from an unknown source on Monday while operating off the coast of Oman.

The renewed conflict between the US and Iran is once again endangering commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, with Iranian forces focusing on ships and the US working to maintain its port restrictions.

Dynacom stated that the Malta-flagged Panamax tanker Kavomaleas suffered impacts from two projectiles, which ignited a fire in the engine room and led to the crew abandoning ship.

Following activation of the onboard fire suppression system, the captain ordered evacuation of the vessel, according to the company statement.

Oman authorities located all crew members and transported them to shore, while Dynacom confirmed ongoing communication with relevant regional bodies.

Maritime risk firm Vanguard noted the event took place roughly 8 nautical miles northwest of Oman's Kumzar during transit.

The tanker had been scheduled to load oil products in the Gulf this week based on available shipping data.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency, which had earlier confirmed the fire, indicated no environmental damage was observed.

Additional Dynacom ship struck during transit of southern Hormuz route

In a separate announcement, Dynacom Tankers confirmed that its Liberian-flagged vessel Acheloos was also hit by a projectile on the same day.

All personnel remain safe and accounted for, with the ship now at anchorage for evaluation and no signs of pollution reported at this stage.

Acheloos is a Very Large Crude Carrier designed to transport up to 2 million barrels of oil.

Maritime security provider Marisks indicated both Acheloos and Kavomaleas were impacted around the same time while using the US-supported southern passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that two oil tankers had exploded and become disabled after using what they described as an unsafe southern route, with similar references made the previous day to incidents in the area.

It remains unclear whether these events connect directly to the Dynacom incidents.
