Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel described relations with Greece as "flourishing" after wrapping up a three-day diplomatic and economic mission to Athens.

The visit aimed to bolster the strategic partnership between Israel and Greece, zeroing in on infrastructure initiatives, energy cooperation, regional links, and security collaboration.

Haskel took the stage as a keynote speaker at the Maritime Med conference and the East Med Energy Transition Summit during the trip.

She conducted high-level discussions with top Greek figures, such as Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Harry Theoharis, and Alternate Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis.

Haskel underscored Israel's dedication to pushing forward major regional infrastructure efforts, especially the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI). This key project features an undersea power cable linking the electricity networks of Israel, Cyprus, and Greece to continental Europe. She also spotlighted the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) trade route as a "cornerstone for global economic stability."

"Recent months have shown without question that we cannot depend on trade paths or energy supplies exposed to radical and reckless forces," Haskel stated.

"Reliance on adversarial groups poses a real threat to the free world at large. The GSI initiative and our close strategic bonds with Greece and Cyprus represent true breakthroughs."

Israel to Play 'Critical' Role in Europe's Energy Security

Haskel noted that Israel is emerging as a dependable central energy center that will "not only secure regional growth" but also "act as a vital support for Europe's energy needs."

The deputy minister also met with leaders of Athens's Jewish community.

She shared that community heads voiced significant worries about surging antisemitism across Europe.

That said, Haskel pointed out that Greece's government has rolled out numerous initiatives against antisemitism, keeping conditions there "less severe."

"The Jewish community there is remarkable. Despite its small size, members are highly engaged and proactive in building their presence while fighting back against threats to prevent Europe's problems from taking root in Greece."

Haskel handed over the "Silenced No More" report to Papadopoulou. This extensive 300-page dossier, produced by the Civil Commission on Hamas's Crimes Against Women and Children, details the organized and systematic sexual assaults by Hamas on men, women, and children from October 7 onward.

The discussion centered on the report's conclusion that such violence was no accident but a calculated tactical tool in Hamas's overall attack.

"Presenting her with that document, discussing the horrors and the use of sexual violence as a weapon against women, children, men - including mutilations and all that unfolded on October 7 - felt profoundly significant," Haskel remarked.

"I was truly grateful for the chance to share it directly, allowing her to review the full evidence firsthand."

Haskel added that safeguarding the record of October 7 events and revealing the full scope of those atrocities is a "moral imperative" she brings to every diplomatic engagement.
