The Defense Ministry requested on Saturday that the nationwide special home front emergency declaration be extended until August 11, pending approval from the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

The present declaration is due to lapse on Tuesday.

In a document presented to the government, the ministry indicated that any need for further extension would be reviewed before the new deadline in line with the prevailing security conditions.

The explanatory notes with the proposal explain that despite the ceasefire related to the conflict with Iran and the accord reached with Lebanon, uncertainty persists on both fronts. The notes also pointed out that Iran is still conducting missile launches of varying strength toward multiple nations in the Middle East.

The document states that due to the uncertainty on the Iran and Lebanon fronts, security officials maintain that the likelihood of an attack on the civilian population remains high.

On this basis, the Defense Ministry proposes extending the nationwide special home front emergency declaration.

No active Home Front Command directives for civilians

The ministry stressed that no Home Front Command directives are currently active for the civilian population, though such measures could be reintroduced if conditions shift.

It further noted that while the declaration is active, the Home Front Command holds authorities under the Civil Defense Law, such as issuing public instructions, requiring use of protected spaces, limiting educational activities, coordinating auxiliary groups, and giving other orders to protect lives and property.

The document adds that with no current Home Front Command directives in place, the economic effects of extending the declaration should be minimal. It also emphasized that a major shift in the security situation could lead to revocation or limitation of the declaration to specific necessary areas.
