Border Guard and detectives capture suspect right after Nazareth shooting incident

Officers from the Border Guard and Northern District detectives, on a mission to uncover illegal weapons in Nazareth, apprehended a suspect just moments after he fired shots in April, according to Israel police on Friday.

During operations on April 10 aimed at preventing crime and seizing illicit firearms, the team heard gunfire echoing from a nearby street.

They quickly pursued the origin of the shots and identified a fleeing individual acting suspiciously near the scene.

Wearing all black, the suspect led officers on a foot pursuit; they discharged warning shots before overtaking and detaining the 28-year-old man.

Investigators discovered a spent gun cartridge inside the suspect's coat pocket at the time of arrest.

Suspect's firearm recovered

A subsequent sweep of the vicinity turned up the weapon believed responsible for the shooting.

Emergency responders found the shooting victim, administered initial treatment, and rushed him to a hospital where he was listed in moderate condition.

The Northern District Attorney's Office has now filed an indictment in Nazareth District Court, capping an exhaustive inquiry by Northern District police.
