TSMC CEO Remarks Suggest AI Growth Cycle Will Persist

Bloomberg reported that TSMC anticipates global semiconductor supply will lag demand for multiple years, driven mainly by AI needs. Wei noted that meeting customer demand will require considerable time, despite ongoing additions of new production facilities.

TSMC plans to invest 265 billion dollars in constructing 10 new fabrication plants across the United States. These facilities will require extended periods to become operational. With four leading U.S. hyperscale companies projected to allocate 725 billion dollars in capital expenditures this year for AI infrastructure expansion, the CEO outlook on sustained supply shortfalls appears well founded.

McKinsey projects the global semiconductor market could reach 1.6 trillion dollars by 2030, rising from 775 billion dollars in 2024 under base assumptions. The upper estimate from the firm reaches 1.8 trillion dollars for the same year.

TSMC appears positioned for extended periods of robust expansion, given that AI-driven demand shows persistence. A supercycle reflects sustained high demand exceeding available supply, which supports favorable pricing for producers. Wei statements point to continued strength in AI chip demand as a positive factor for semiconductor companies over the long term.
