Yet past achievements do not guarantee instant revenue. In the first quarter of 2026, the company posted revenue of just $1.46 million alongside a net loss of $122.9 million. This raises questions about the timeline for CASGEVY to evolve from a scientific achievement into a commercially viable product.

Commercial adoption at a snail's pace

Administering gene-editing therapies involves more than issuing prescriptions. Patients require specialized centers, intricate preparation steps, and extended approval timelines. Consequently, commercial uptake proceeds gradually instead of rapidly.

The firm has expanded authorized treatment centers in the United States and Europe, yet this alone does not confirm that patient volumes will grow substantially in coming years.

CRISPR maintains a robust balance sheet with roughly $2.4 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities at quarter end. This provides management ample flexibility to support ongoing research without immediate financing needs.

A $22 billion opportunity

CTX112 stands out among pipeline candidates as an investigational off-the-shelf CAR-T therapy targeting cancer. Initial trial results sparked interest due to its potential for scalable production from healthy donor cells.

This approach contrasts with conventional CAR-T methods that rely on patient-specific cells. Success here could reduce costs, accelerate timelines, and broaden access to therapy.

CAR-T treatments represent a market valued near $5.8 billion in 2025, projected to exceed $22 billion by 2033. Securing even 5 percent of that market could generate over $1 billion in yearly revenue.

CTX112 remains years from possible approval. Investors currently weigh an approved product, substantial cash reserves, and promising pipeline assets against persistent losses, gradual adoption, and development uncertainties.
