Hyperliquid (CRYPTO: HYPE) jumped 11 percent on August 19 after President Donald Trump named it during a White House crypto event. He noted that the CFTC chair is developing a route for the derivatives platform to function legally in the United States. The exchange currently restricts American users to stay clear of regulatory issues. The token has kept rising since then and now sits 50 percent above its level from 30 days earlier.

Proceed with caution

I own Hyperliquid. It ranks among the limited cryptocurrencies that interest me for purchase now, and the president's mention was welcome news. My first reaction was to add to the position right away.

Yet a market surge tied to your holdings calls for reflection rather than rushed additional purchases. Allowing enthusiasm to drive portfolio choices rarely helps, since the feeling passes but poor outcomes from hasty moves can linger.

Investors should note that no regulatory filings exist for Hyperliquid at present. No public records or applications appear on file. Even with documentation, a gap remains between ideas once floated and rules actually put in place.

A single comment at a gathering of officials and leaders does not grant Hyperliquid entry to the US market. Should approval arrive, it could come with restrictions or less favorable conditions.

The token does not qualify as a must-buy based solely on the president's words.

The Coinbase yield arrangement may deliver real value

Still, a fresh and tangible reason exists to consider Hyperliquid.

On August 26, Hyperliquid started collecting its portion of reserve yield from exchange holdings of the USDC stablecoin under an agreement reached with Coinbase Global and Circle Internet Group earlier in the year.

The arrangement allows it to capture about 90 percent of the yield after expenses from the Treasury bills that support the stablecoin, collected every 30 days. Then 99 percent of that yield goes toward purchasing Hyperliquid's own token in the open market. The token is held outside the circulating supply to provide returns to owners. CoinGecko projects the deal will add roughly 182 million dollars annually to buyback efforts, an 18 percent boost to protocol revenue. The initial distribution is set for October 3.

I intend to acquire more Hyperliquid to benefit from the USDC yield program, yet even with the appeal of this asset I will proceed in a deliberate manner.
