President Trump announced an $8 billion relief initiative to assist farmers impacted by elevated diesel fuel expenses.

During a rally in Kansas on Monday evening, Mr. Trump stated that the Department of Agriculture would introduce the Harvest Fuel Relief program to provide $8 billion in assistance for diesel expenses this harvest season.

He further noted that additional funding for farmers would be approved upon Republican victories, emphasizing support for the agricultural community.

In a related action earlier this month, Mr. Trump issued an executive order relaxing restrictions on the tax-free application of red-dyed diesel to reduce expenses for farmers and truckers. This follows a prior $12 billion aid package announced in December.

Agricultural producers have encountered significant financial strain due to rising diesel prices essential for operating farm equipment. Diesel hit a peak of $6.53 per gallon on September 22 but has since declined marginally to an average of $6.32 per gallon nationwide, compared to $3.62 the previous year, per AAA figures.

USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins highlighted that this investment aims to provide stability for farmers during the harvest period, enabling them to sustain national food supplies.

Under the Harvest Fuel Relief program, payments will compensate farmers for a portion of projected losses in the 2026 crop year based on a standard formula incorporating acreage data from the Farm Service Agency, along with estimated production costs, yields, and prices from USDA reports.

Payment rates for key commodity crops are scheduled for release in November, with information on additional eligible items to come subsequently. Eligibility does not require crop insurance, and farmers are advised to establish a Login.gov account connected to USDA for applications.

According to USDA projections, net farm income is anticipated to decrease by 2.6 percent this year amid a 4.5 percent rise in production costs. Expenses for fuel and oil are forecasted to increase by nearly 30 percent, based on the agency's September outlook.
