Apple shares have risen sharply since early 2023 for solid reasons yet now appear fully valued and possibly overvalued.

Technology leaders Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) continue as the most discussed firms and their shares rank among the most traded globally. Much of the discussion and activity leans positive.

Honestly I am shifting toward a contrarian stance on all three. This means while most traders favor these stocks I take a minority skeptical view. Here is the reasoning for each.

Nvidia

Nvidia clearly leads the artificial intelligence processing chip space. It reported 89 billion dollars in data center chip sales last quarter marking a 117 percent rise from the prior year.

Yet the high performance processor field is evolving. While graphics processing units from Nvidia still form the core of many new AI setups other options are gaining ground fast. These include standard central processing units from Intel along with specialized chips such as Alphabet Tensor Processing Units and Amazon Graviton processors.

These alternatives were designed specifically to compete with Nvidia costly hardware and to meet the needs of the two largest public cloud providers.

This does not mean Nvidia faces ruin. Its GPU solutions will stay relevant. However with the stock priced for 84 percent revenue growth this year followed by 44 percent next year there is little margin for slips if AI users turn more to other platforms.

Given ongoing weak returns on investment for many AI adopters I expect more of them to explore alternatives. That poses a real risk for the current leader.

Tesla

Excitement around Tesla AI robotics efforts stays strong. CEO Elon Musk stated early this year that the firm could begin mass production and sales of its humanoid robots by late 2027 and the timeline has not shifted since.

He has called these AI androids called Optimus potentially the biggest product ever and likely the main driver of Tesla value so investors watch closely.

Note that buying has not surged. After gains from 2023 into 2025 the stock sits nearly 30 percent below its December high.

Investors may recall Musk history of optimistic timelines that often slip.

The short timeline still supporting the price is itself an issue. Many investors may not fully grasp how many other firms are advancing their own AI humanoid robots. These rivals could reach the market ahead of Optimus even though limited production has started at Tesla Fremont site.

Examples include an OpenAI backed firm 1X Technologies with its NEO robot and Figure AI 03 model showing strong home assistant potential. Other players such as Unitree Apptronik Neura Robotics and AgiBot are also close to commercial entry.

This matters because much of Tesla remaining value rests on the idea that its android will sell widely by the end of next year when that outcome is far from certain.

Apple

I am also taking a contrarian stance on Apple which most seem to favor. This holds especially as the stock nears the record high reached in late July after a 150 percent climb since late 2022.

Apple recovered effectively after its late 2024 AI misstep. New features arrived and older ones improved. Notably its Siri assistant now performs at a level matching the company prior reputation.

Buyers are reacting. After a slow period iPhone revenue rose 22 percent in the quarter ending June and shows the same gain for the first three quarters of the fiscal year ending September.

Still temper expectations. AAPL trades near fully valued levels just 4 percent below the analyst consensus target of 333.10 and the company has a new CEO the second since Steve Jobs.

While John Ternus is qualified each leader after the visionary founder faces growing challenges. The firm has fewer chances to build fresh consumer tech profit centers and rivals are finding ways to limit Apple edge.

For instance Siri now relies on Google Gemini for AI while OpenAI ChatGPT is available via Apple Intelligence on iOS. The closed development approach that once gave Apple its advantage is gradually eroding. Yet the stock price still assumes that edge remains intact.
