Micron produces both DRAM and NAND memory chip varieties, but SanDisk focuses on just one category.
Each firm shows strong revenue expansion recently.

Micron (NASDAQ: MU) and SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) rank among top market picks for investors today. Both surged in the first half of 2026 yet have since retreated and now sit well below prior peaks.

Micron has fallen 20 percent while SanDisk has dropped over 30 percent, creating a potential entry point for these memory leaders ahead of further gains. Still, selecting just one requires analysis of their positions.

Micron covers both memory chip market areas

Memory chips fall into two main types used in data centers driving current demand. DRAM supports fast data access with processors, while NAND handles persistent storage such as in solid-state drives. Micron supplies both NAND and DRAM, whereas SanDisk supplies only NAND.

Need for these chips has held steady recently, with producers facing challenges keeping up with AI data center orders. Ongoing expansions point to continued strength for both firms ahead.

Memory products behave much like commodities with little differentiation between makers. Tight supply paired with strong demand has lifted prices sharply for both companies.

This setup raises concerns over cycles for investors. Demand could ease or supply could increase, cutting prices and profits sharply for Micron and SanDisk alike.

The market appears cautious given uncertainty over cycle timing. Yet Micron has signaled that tight conditions should last past 2027, supporting growth for at least another year and a half. This supports both as holdings, but which offers better value?

Both show fast expansion

Revenue and earnings have climbed sharply for each over the past year, with Micron advancing at a quicker overall clip than SanDisk.

Analysts project 81 percent revenue growth for Micron in fiscal 2027. For SanDisk, estimates point to 154 percent revenue growth in the same period.

Past results do not guarantee future performance, yet both anticipate solid gains in coming quarters while shares trade at modest valuations.

SanDisk trades at 7.5 times fiscal 2027 earnings estimates, and Micron trades at 6.3 times. These levels reflect market doubts on the memory boom lasting. With experts forecasting extended shortages, the potential rewards justify the risk for either.

Between them, SanDisk stands out due to its comparable valuation and higher projected growth. When weighing the opportunity, the faster growth path makes it the preferred choice, though Micron remains reasonable as well.
