Recent weeks have proven challenging for numerous semiconductor stocks. Growing investor caution over elevated valuations has pressured shares of Nvidia, Broadcom, and Cerebras lower.

Yet this turbulence raises a key question: does it signal the right moment to exit these names?

Cerebras IPO Momentum Fades Quickly

Cerebras debuted publicly several weeks ago at an IPO price of $185, opening at $350. Despite that strong start, the stock has declined roughly 18 percent since May 15.

The firm builds enormous wafer-scale chips roughly the size of a dinner plate, delivering processing power comparable to a full GPU cluster within a single device. This design contrasts with Nvidia and most rivals, which dice wafers into many smaller chips.

Cerebras argues its architecture excels at AI inference workloads, positioning it well for the technology's next stage.

Investors weighing a sale should pause. Although the company remains unprofitable under GAAP rules and carries a lofty valuation, its distinctive AI approach has attracted rapid interest. OpenAI plans to allocate $20 billion toward Cerebras processors in coming years, while Amazon has begun incorporating the chips into AWS AI offerings. Trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 97 versus the sector average near 8, the shares command a premium, yet a modest stake could reward holders if adoption accelerates.

Broadcom Guidance Disappoints, Triggering Overdone Sell-Off

Broadcom shares have posted solid gains, rising 55 percent over the past year. Sentiment shifted after fiscal second-quarter results in early June.

Non-GAAP earnings per share reached $2.44, topping estimates, while AI chip revenue jumped 143 percent to $10.8 billion. Management reaffirmed its $100 billion full-year AI sales target.

Investors had hoped for an upward revision and reacted negatively to total revenue of $22.2 billion falling just below the $22.27 billion consensus.

The ensuing decline appears excessive. Broadcom's custom ASICs enable clients to tailor processors to specific AI model demands, serving key accounts including Alphabet, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta Platforms. Semiconductor gross margins near 70 percent supported an 88 percent rise in net income to $9.3 billion.

After the pullback, the stock now trades at a price-to-earnings ratio around 65, down from roughly 88 weeks earlier. Strong margins, an extensive AI customer base, and specialized processors support a constructive long-term outlook.

Nvidia Encounters Rivals Yet Retains Strong Position

Nvidia continues as a leading chipmaker but faces fresh doubts. Major technology firms have pledged hundreds of billions annually for AI infrastructure, yet some observers worry the pace may slow. They also note alternatives from Advanced Micro Devices, Broadcom, and Cerebras.

While spending growth cannot continue indefinitely, exiting Nvidia entirely risks overlooking its enduring dominance. The company commands an 88 percent share of data center GPU sales.

Nvidia is also preparing for broader AI adoption across PCs, vehicles, and robots. Should autonomy expand in these areas, demand for its accelerators should remain robust. At a price-to-earnings ratio near 30, the shares appear attractively valued relative to peers.
