Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU), Western Digital (NASDAQ: WDC), and Sandisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) have each fallen more than 20%, with the steepest losses exceeding 36%.

Micron Technology

Micron epitomized the surge in memory shares this year, briefly reaching a valuation near $1.4 trillion and ranking among the world's most valuable firms. That figure aligns closely with the current worth of electric vehicle maker Tesla.

The run has been remarkable, with shares climbing more than 1,000% over five years. Yet they have declined about 24% in the past month. The central question is whether this reflects routine profit-taking or the start of a deeper downturn.

Fundamentals remain solid, with $90 billion in revenue and more than $50 billion in profit across the last four quarters. The firm has shifted from earlier losses to robust profitability.

Artificial intelligence demand has fueled expansion. At roughly five times projected future earnings, the valuation appears attractive. Still, any easing of memory shortages and resulting price pressure could alter the outlook. Investors confident that AI has established sustained demand may view the shares as a compelling purchase.

Western Digital

Western Digital has fallen further, declining 35% in the past month while retaining five-year gains near 900%. Its external drives are valued for reliability and data protection.

Rising cloud storage needs have supported demand for its backup solutions. Revenue over the trailing twelve months reached $11.8 billion, with profits of $6.4 billion.

Growth has been steadier than some peers, yet the shares trade at 25 times forward earnings, above the S&P 500 average below 22. This premium may leave room for additional downside given that recent expansion has not matched the pace seen elsewhere.

Sandisk

Sandisk separated from Western Digital last year and has since delivered gains approaching 3,900%. Its market value now stands at $206 billion, surpassing its former parent at $168 billion.

NAND flash memory used in cards and drives has seen strong uptake. The sharp prior advance helps explain the largest pullback on this list, with shares down 36% in the past month.

Earnings have improved markedly from earlier losses, aided by elevated pricing. Reliance on sustained high prices and a forward multiple of 21 times earnings suggest caution before adding to positions despite the recent decline.
