The firm takes an unusual step now by lowering shelf prices on grocery lines. It forecasts a 3% to 4% sales drop from this but anticipates earnings per share advancing 7% to 12% next year due to wider gross margins. This reflects a business prioritizing buyers and wagering on higher volumes. Past attention on Tyson centered on beef margin pressure and tariff risks for cattle imports. Yet beef forms just one part of a varied protein business. Jimmy Dean, Ball Park, and Hillshire Farm all expand retail presence, while the firm advances a multiyear cost-cut plan that boosts margins in prepared foods. At present prices, Tyson values at a portion of what its chicken segment alone might command standalone. The $5,000 allocation here as a wager on food and protein needs stands as solid given steady consumer demand.

3. Hormel Foods

Hormel Foods (NYSE: HRL) has increased its dividend over 25 straight years and now yields close to 4.8%. The shares sit near multiyear lows, valued at about 15.5 times earnings against a 10-year norm nearer 19 times. The difference in that spread signals a genuine reset chance.

Hormel offers appeal through its reorganization efforts. It divested the Planters nut business and navigates a turkey segment shift that weighed on near-term outlook. Organic net sales rose 3% in Q2 of fiscal 2026, ended April 26, marking the fifth straight quarter of organic gains, with the dividend fully supported. Directing roughly $1,000 of the $5,000 here yields nearly $48 yearly in dividends per $1,000 placed while awaiting valuation alignment. Steady holds value in the current setting.
