Iren (NASDAQ: IREN) is not centered on 2026 developments. Numerous investors opted to offload shares following the release of fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter figures. Iren posted $137.2 million in revenue for Q4 of fiscal year 2026, reflecting a 26.7% drop compared to the prior year.

A $684 million net loss during the period combined with anticipated capital expenditures between $25 billion and $30 billion for fiscal 2027 intensified the decline. Labeling the results as underwhelming proves difficult given prior expectations. The elements driving views of Iren as a strong long-term opportunity lie ahead, and these earnings reinforced the extended outlook.

Iren Advances Deliberately in Locking In Contracts

Iren targets 300 megawatts of operational power by 2026 and plans to increase this to 800 megawatts by the close of 2027. This represents a modest portion of the firm's 5.8 gigawatt capacity.

Although the company revealed a multi-year AI Cloud agreement with a prominent frontier AI laboratory in the Q4 FY26 announcement, this proved insufficient to satisfy investors. Iren will continue to face comparisons with Nebius, which is finalizing larger contracts currently and generating AI cloud income at an accelerated pace.

Nevertheless, the choice to proceed patiently has paid off. Iren has finalized agreements yielding $20 million per megawatt each year. It is also pursuing arrangements with technology firms offering $25 million annually per contracted megawatt.

In contrast, the five-year $9.7 billion pact with Microsoft covered 200 megawatts. The yearly $1.94 billion from that arrangement equates to $9.7 million per megawatt, amounting to less than half of current rates.

Had Iren negotiated that identical deal today, it might have secured over $20 billion across five years. This calculation supports Iren's selective approach to contracts. The extended wait enhances the value of its computing resources.

The Key Growth Trigger Did Not Appear in Fiscal 2026 Figures

The Microsoft agreement elevated Iren's profile. While the stock advanced earlier amid speculation on opportunities, the core case solidified with that contract.

Iren confirmed delivery of Horizon 1 on Aug. 13. This accounts for 50 megawatts of the 200 megawatts in the agreement. Iren CEO Dan Roberts noted efforts to complete Horizons 2 through 4 later this year. Upon completion, Iren will recognize the full $1.94 billion in yearly recurring revenue rather than merely one-quarter of that total.

Understandably, a project delivered in August will not factor into results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. This explains why AI cloud revenue reached only $70.5 million. Horizon 1 will contribute partially to the next quarter's outcomes. Horizons 2 to 4 will require additional time to appear in results, yet they should feature in all subsequent figures starting in 2027.

Horizon 1 enables $485 million in annual recurring revenue. The upcoming two fiscal quarters will include notable sequential expansion in Iren's cloud operations solely from Horizon 1 timing. Further project deliveries will drive ongoing growth.

Iren Can Fund Capital Expenditures Without Diluting Shareholders

The $25 billion to $30 billion capital expenditure projection also unsettled investors. This represents Iren's expected outlay in fiscal 2027. However, Iren CFO Anthony Lewis addressed these worries by detailing funding plans.

Iren already holds $14 billion in cash reserves. Lewis indicated plans to bridge the remainder via an additional $8 billion in graphics processing unit financing and advance payments. He further noted data center financing options.

This update suggests share dilution, a frequent concern, could be behind us. Advance payments are increasing as Iren achieves higher revenue per megawatt. Iren stated in its Q4 FY26 release that prepayments comprise 45% to 55% of GPU capital spending.

Iren ended Aug. 26 with $1 billion in operating annual recurring revenue, incorporating Horizon 1. It also anticipates $4 billion in operating annual recurring revenue by year-end, projecting future AI cloud income at $1 billion quarterly. This far surpasses the $70.5 million in Q4 FY26 cloud revenue.

The share decline reflects an overreaction by investors anticipating substantial results immediately. Such outcomes were never expected, yet the groundwork supports a strong upturn in 2027 and afterward.
