Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX) shares have struggled lately. So far this year the medtech company's stock has lost more than half its value.

The steep drop is understandable given repeated cuts to growth forecasts throughout the year. Still, because analysts hold a brighter view than the broader market, it is worth examining the recovery prospects for this discounted healthcare name.

Boston Scientific and its prolonged decline

Back in February management projected organic revenue growth of 10 percent to 11 percent. Given 19.5 percent growth in 2025, investors disliked the tempered outlook. Management has since issued further reductions.

In April the company cut its 2026 organic revenue target to a range of 6.5 percent to 8 percent. Then in late May it lowered expectations again. Pointing to reduced stand-alone use of Watchman procedures involving its heart implant, CEO Michael Mahoney indicated the firm would likely see flat dollar growth from the first quarter into the second and probably the third as well.

Why the ambitious price target may not hold

Analyst views have turned more cautious, yet 27 of the 31 covering analysts still rate the stock a buy. The average price target of 78 dollars per share implies upside of 65 percent.

While stronger results could support a rebound, reaching even part of the way to 78 dollars may be difficult. The stock currently trades at a forward multiple in the mid-teens, similar to peers such as Abbott Laboratories and Medtronic. A move to a premium multiple would probably need quicker growth recovery. Moreover, depending on second-quarter results and guidance, these targets could move lower.

For the moment, treat the gap between the share price and analyst targets cautiously.
