Following the Space Exploration Technology initial public offering, attention now turns to the artificial intelligence startup Anthropic as the next major IPO candidate. On June 1, Anthropic delivered a confidential S-1 filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission, advancing its plans for a public debut.

Similar to the period before the SpaceX listing, everyday investors lack direct access to shares ahead of the event. However, one exchange-traded fund already maintains a position in Anthropic and remains available for purchase: the KraneShares Artificial Intelligence and Technology ETF (NASDAQ: AGIX).

KraneShares' investment approach and public holdings

KraneShares targets both public and private technology and AI firms, directing 80 percent of net assets toward equities in the Solactive Etna Artificial General Intelligence Index. The index spans three core AI segments: hardware, infrastructure, and applications. This structure supports diversified exposure across the sector rather than limiting focus to chip producers or software providers alone.

Among its public positions, the top five holdings feature prominent technology leaders such as Nvidia in the lead, followed by Alphabet, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and Apple. The fund also maintains a stake in SK Hynix, a memory and storage specialist listed on the Korean Exchange that can prove challenging for U.S. investors to reach directly.

Private investments

KraneShares acquired its Anthropic position through a direct investment during a funding round and currently holds roughly 17,800 shares. As of June 17, this stake represented 1.4 percent of the ETF's total assets.

In addition to Anthropic, the fund secured an early position in SpaceX prior to its public offering and now owns more than 111,000 shares. It further holds over 367,000 shares in Nuro, a company focused on autonomous vehicles and robotics, along with more than 14,000 shares in Polymarket, the prediction market platform.

The rewards and risks of the KraneShares ETF

The ETF has delivered strong results in 2026, advancing more than 27 percent through June 18. Although the majority of holdings trade publicly, the fund supplies access to select pre-IPO names that typical investors cannot reach directly. Its emphasis on AI companies across hardware, infrastructure, and applications sectors also reduces the chance of excessive concentration in any single area of the field.

Risks remain, however. Short-term price swings could arise if enthusiasm ahead of the Anthropic IPO fades once shares become publicly available. Investors may then prefer to purchase Anthropic stock outright rather than through the ETF. A broader decline in AI equities would also affect the fund sharply given its concentrated mandate.
