Truchard now reveals the pre-release of the 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a special legacy bottling that celebrates two decades since the first release and represents the complete realization of the three core principles behind John Anthony Vineyards: regard for tradition, exacting vineyard practices, and careful winemaking.

A Wine Shaped by Twenty Vintages
John gained his understanding of grape cultivation from his father and other early Napa Valley producers during the region's formative years on the global stage. He gained hands-on experience with some of the area's leading viticulturists, applying those lessons when he established FARM Napa Valley in 1997, a top vineyard management firm, prior to focusing on wines under his own John Anthony Vineyards name. This longstanding connection to the land and community forms the foundation of the 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Drawn from four AVAs across the valley and matured for twenty months in French oak sourced from fourteen leading cooperages, the wine shows deep ruby-purple tones in the glass along with dark fruit, cedar spice, and graphite notes on the nose. It is full-bodied yet refined, with a long, graceful finish, designed for current enjoyment while possessing the structure to develop further. The wine received 93 points from Wine Palate. The 2023 vintage first appeared publicly at the 2026 Auction Napa Valley, where John Anthony Vineyards donated a single barrel of the unreleased wine to benefit the Napa Valley Vintners' Youth Wellness Initiative, contributing to the event's total of six million dollars raised for charity. On Saturday, July 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., John and Michele Truchard will host guests at one of their private properties for a pre-release gathering celebrating twenty years of Cabernet Sauvignon. Attendees will enjoy one of the earliest opportunities to sample the 2023 vintage ahead of its official November release, along with a selection of older library vintages that illustrate the wine's development from early examples to the current release. Estate chef Logan Foos, formerly of the French Laundry, will prepare a seasonal menu that includes an oyster station, complemented by live music and on-site bottle etching.
