Union Achieves Preliminary Pact for 11,000 Mechanics and Related Workers Nationwide

, /PRNewswire/ - The Teamsters Union has secured a preliminary pact with United Airlines (UA) covering more than 11,000 mechanics and related staff nationwide, marking a major win after nearly two years of steady talks and member-driven contract efforts. The complete bargaining group, consisting of UA business agents and rank-and-file members, approved the preliminary deal by a 19-to-12 vote and will now send it to members for final approval.

The win delivers top-tier pay raises and strong job safeguards, shortens the path to maximum pay from eight years down to five, and includes a $54 million ratification bonus that distributes $5,000 to every member. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters fully endorses approval of this deal.

The contract success comes after a determined push by the Teamsters Union. During negotiations, Teamsters pressed for a leading agreement that honors members' vital role in servicing one of the nation's largest airline fleets and protecting millions of travelers.

"For nearly two years, Teamsters at United faced a multibillion-dollar company and insisted on a contract that matches their expertise and the substantial earnings they help create," said Teamsters General President Sean M. The Teamsters UA committee will complete the wording and share final details with members promptly. Once a full tentative agreement is ready, members will review the complete contract and cast votes for ratification.
