/PRNewswire/ - On Wednesday, the European Commission released two mandatory orders under the Digital Markets Act. These orders require Google to improve competitor access to its Android and Search platforms. The directives mandate that Google permit third-party artificial intelligence assistants to access essential Android features on par with Google's AI products. Additionally, Google must share specific Search data with rival search engines and AI-powered search tools.

In reaction to the announcement, David B. McGarry, Research Director of the Taxpayers Protection Alliance, provided this statement:

"The European Commission has sent a clear message: do not achieve too much success. When technology firms innovate effectively or offer superior products, regulators intervene. Google has innovated consistently and held a valid competitive edge for years, yet it must now disclose sensitive operational information to support competitors. Intellectual property and trade secrets appear to hold little value for European Union officials.

"Worse still, the EC will force Google to share sensitive search data with rivals. This data was entrusted to Google by users expecting privacy. Furthermore, this information could reach not only European firms but also entities influenced by geopolitical adversaries like China. While attempts to create artificial competition are misguided, risking the national security of America and its allies is far more serious. These risks affect Europeans as well as Americans in the EU, including officials and military staff.

"Europe is approaching a critical juncture. Its strict regulations may ultimately disrupt the internet for European users. After stifling its own innovators, Europe is pushing away American tech companies.

"If Europe cannot change direction, American leaders, particularly in the Trump administration, should apply strong diplomatic efforts to safeguard American tech firms, users, and national security."
